COSTA MESA, Calif., May 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted California-based Ceradyne Inc. for enhanced side ballistic inserts.
Officials say the $31.5 million order is from the U.S. Army at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Under the deal, Ceradyne will be expected to supply the ESBI ceramic body armor before November 2008.
The contract is part of a five-year deal originally announced in July 2006.
"We are pleased with this recent side plate delivery order, which continues to provide future shipment visibility," David Reed, Ceradyne president North American operations, said in a statement.
"We anticipate, based on our past performance and production capacity in Costa Mesa, Calif., and Lexington, Ky., that we will ship all ESBI product at the required delivery and quality levels."
