FALLS CHURCH, Va., May 13 (UPI) -- Defense contractor DynCorp International Inc., based in Virginia, has named a new president and chief executive officer.

DynCorp International announced the appointment of former BAE Systems executive William Ballhaus as the new president and CEO. Ballhaus replaces Herb Lanese, who company officials say is retiring. The appointment is effective May 19.

Ballhaus, who has worked in BAE's national security and mission solutions divisions, was most recently the company's network systems division president. Ballhaus also has an extensive history in defense, intelligence and homeland security markets.

"Bill Ballhaus has the keen intellect, energy and proven leadership skills to accomplish our goal of growing DynCorp International profitably while continuing to diversify its portfolio of customers and contract vehicles," Robert McKeon, DynCorp International chairman of the board, said in a statement. "The defense industry is in Bill's blood -- he is the third generation of his family to serve in industry leadership roles."

DynCorp International is a developer of mission-critical services to civilian and military government agencies.
