STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 28 (UPI) -- India's Ministry of Defense says it has received Saab's compliant response for a proposed delivery of 126 of the company's Gripen fighter aircrafts.

The Saab's compliant response bid is an effort to meet the Indian Ministry of Defense's medium multi-role combat aircraft needs for the Indian air force. The potential delivery of the next-generation Gripen fighter aircrafts is supported by a long term program of industrial cooperation between Saab and the Indian Ministry of Defense.

Saab's next generation Gripen includes advances in combat range and endurance along with a more powerful engine and additional weapons payload capabilities.

"The compliant proposal submitted today (Monday), demonstrates our commitment to winning the Indian government's MMRCA tender," Ake Svensson, Saab president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"I am confident that Saab has submitted the complete solution to India's requirements. We are offering cutting edge, next generation combat aircraft and excessive industrial cooperation, including unrivaled access to key technologies, enabling autonomy and increased national security for India."
