SAIC to support JTRS

SAN DIEGO, April 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command says it has contracted Science Applications International Corp. to support the joint tactical radio system.

SPAWAR's operations in San Diego announced the task order, under SeaPort-e contract, for SAIC to provide support services to the military development team working to produce the JTRS next-generation interoperable, digital, software-defined radio technology.

"SAIC will help develop software and hardware, and will supply those software-defined radios into operational units," Tom Baybrook, SAIC senior vice president and business unit manager, said in a statement. "This work will help enhance the technical communication capabilities of our troops as they continue to fight the global war on terror."

SAIC, a scientific, engineering and technology development company in the defense, intelligence and homeland security markets, says work on the JTRS contract will be performed in California, Virginia, New Jersey and Maryland. If all the contract options are exercised, total value of the JTRS deal could exceed $42 million for SAIC.
