NEW ORLEANS, March 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command says it has ordered an additional 82 Textron Marine and Land armored security vehicles.

Under the $58 million contract modification, Textron Marine and Land will deliver 82 additional ASV variant of the M1200 Armored Knight combat vehicles. New Orleans-based Textron Marine and Land, part of Textron Inc., has equipped the M1200 with laser guided weapons systems sensor packages for soldiers in combat zones among other modifications.

"We're excited to be awarded this contract to manufacture additional ASVs for the M1200 Armored Knight and provide even more protection to our soldiers," Tom Walmsley, Textron Marine and Land general manager, said in a statement. "This additional variant of the ASV truly shows the versatility of this product. We're proud of the field record of the Armored Knight variant, and the ASV."

The ASV anti-ballistic light and agile combat vehicle has 360 degrees of armor protection. The M1200 Armored Knight ASV variant is equipped with advanced weapons systems for precision-guided munitions that officials say are specially configured for Field Artillery Combat Observation and Lasing Teams.
