WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army Communications and Electronics Command announced it has contracted ITT Corp. to support night-vision technologies.

Under the $5.5 million award, ITT's Virginia-based night vision division will supply aviation image tubes to CENCOM's Fort Monmouth, N.J.-based Acquisition Center. Officials say the generation three image intensifier tubes, integral to the Army's night vision goggle technologies, will replace spares as part of the Defense Department's CECOM Life Cycle Management Command repair and refurbishment overhaul of equipment that is worn out from use in the military's active conflicts.

The ITT Generation 3 image intensifier tubes, used in the AN/AVS-6 and AN/AVS-9 aviation night vision goggles, are deployed by all of the U.S. military service branches.

"This award exemplifies our commitment to serve military aviation on what we believe to be the first of many aviation orders in support of reset initiatives," Mike Hayman, ITT night vision division president and general manager, said in a statement. "We are pleased to provide our highest performing aviation tube to help protect our nation's warfighters."
