NEWARK, N.Y., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- New York-based defense contractor Ultralife announced the changing of its subsidiary's name from Innovative Solutions Consulting to RedBlack Communications.

Ultralife is a developer of power solutions to communications and electronics systems for the defense industry among others. Company officials announced its Innovative Solutions Consulting unit will now be called RedBlack Communications.

"Red and black are the words used in the communications industry to signify secure and non-secure," Jim Evans, Ultralife vice president and general manager and RedBlack Communications president, said in a statement. "Those words have meaning to customers seeking an engineering and technical services organization such as RedBlack to design, manufacture and support communications and electronic systems."

RedBlack Communications is an engineering and technical services company for the government and defense markets. The company was acquired by Ultralife in September 2007.

"The new name capitalizes on the brand's core offering of secure and non-secure communications and electronics solutions for the government and defense market and broadcasts a very clear message to customers exactly what the company provides," said John Kavazanjian, Ultralife president and chief executive officer. "Rebranding ISC to RedBlack Communications is part of our company-wide plan to ensure that all Ultralife brands possess a distinctive identity in their respective markets."
