HAWTHORNE, Calif., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- EDO Corp. announced it has awarded California-based OSI Systems Inc. a follow-on contract to support the Crew 2.1 vehicle-mounted electronic jammer systems.

OSI Systems is a developer of specialized electronics for the homeland security, defense, aerospace and healthcare industries. Under the approximately $5.8 million deal, OSI Systems' Optoelectronics and Manufacturing division will support the Crew 2.1 with electronic sub-assemblies.

"We continue to work closely with EDO on this critical U.S. government contract," Deepak Chopra, OSI Systems president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "This contract award comes after recently being honored by EDO as their outstanding supplier for electronic manufacturing services in 2007."

The U.S. Department of Defense announced in December an $86.5 million contract order for 1,136 Crew 2.1 vehicle-mounted electronic jammers from EDO. Officials say the delivery for the order is April 2008.
