MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. company Northrop Grumman has picked George Haynes as its chief information officer and head of technical services.

The company said in a statement Thursday that Haynes had also been promoted to be one of its vice presidents.

"In this position, Haynes is responsible for establishing the information technology strategic direction and leadership of all information systems and information technology activities for the Technical Services sector and its business areas," the company said.

"George's strong leadership background coupled with his extensive contracting expertise will serve us well," said Hugh Taylor, vice president and chief information officer for Northrop Grumman. "His leadership is a tremendous asset and will help position our business for the future."

"Haynes has held a variety of leadership positions in his 22 years at Northrop Grumman. Prior to this role, Haynes served as director of operations for Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector," the company said.

Haynes "earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Towson State University, Towson, Md., and a master's degree in management information systems from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md.," the company said.

Northrop Grumman describes itself as "a $31.5 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide."
