NEW YORK, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- New York-based Ultralife Batteries Inc. announced it received a follow-on contract from a U.S. defense contractor for additional communications systems.

Ultralife is a high-energy power solutions and communications accessories developer for the defense market. The $40 million contract from an unnamed defense contractor is a follow-on award to a $62 million order Ultralife announced on Dec. 17.

"We are pleased by this customer's recognition of Ultralife's engineering capabilities in awarding us a total of over $100 million worth of orders for advanced communications systems," John Kavazanjian, Ultralife president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"This order also attests to our success in designing advanced integrated communications systems in collaboration with a customer, in keeping with our strategy of forging durable partnerships with our customers to design power solutions and communications systems that meet their application requirements."

Company officials say deliveries are expected to begin in 2008.
