HAWTHORNE, Calif., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- California-based OSI Systems Inc. announced its security division, Rapiscan Systems, has been contracted for its new passenger screening X-ray system.

Rapiscan Systems is a security inspection solutions developer utilizing X-ray and gamma-ray imaging for threat identification. The company announced it has been contracted for its new passenger screening Rapiscan MVXi multi-view X-ray system for $5 million from an undisclosed international aviation customer.

The Rapiscan MVXi is "designed with advanced software to highlight explosives and other potential threat objects. Additionally, the multi-view platform reduces the need to reposition carry-on bags during the inspection process thereby expediting the passenger screening process," the company said.

"The Rapiscan MVXi is among the most advanced checkpoint X-ray systems currently on the market," Ajay Mehra, president of Rapiscan Systems, said in a statement. "The system, designed specifically towards improving security and passenger throughput at the aviation checkpoint, should ultimately lead to shorter queues, fewer delays and less hassle during the passenger screening process."
