NEW YORK, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- New York-based Ultralife Batteries Inc. announced it has been contracted to supply a U.S. defense contractor with advanced communications systems.

Ultralife is a high-energy power solutions and communications accessories developer for the defense, commercial and consumer portable electronics markets. Under a $62 million deal, the company will supply communications systems to a U.S. defense contractor, whose name was not released.

"Over the past year we have been working on adding more value in our communications accessories business by expanding our product portfolio to include advanced integrated communications systems, and we are pleased by the acceptance these systems are gaining in the marketplace," John Kavazanjian, Ultralife president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"They also demonstrate our success in deepening our presence with prime defense contractors and offer proof of the strong working relationships we have established with them. Our leadership position in the development and supply of both power and communications systems for critical defense applications gives us a solid foundation to continue growing our systems business through prime defense contractors."
