RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force announced it has contracted North Carolina-based Cyberlux Corp. for the company's BrightEye Visible and Covert Portable Illumination Systems.

Cyberlux will supply its light emitting diode lighting solutions to the Air Force as a result of an $8 million allocation in the 2008 fiscal year Department of Defense Appropriations Bill.

The BrightEye Portable Illumination System is "designed as a portable visible and night-vision compatible illumination system for general mission tactical lighting, force protection, maintenance lighting, expeditionary base protection, disaster first responders, and other rapidly deployable high-intensity lighting applications," the company said.

Company officials released a statement in September announcing that their BrightEye Portable Illumination System evaluation period by the U.S. Air Force Air Mobility Battlelab was successfully completed.

"The action by President Bush and the Congress to approve the equipping of the U.S. Air Force with Cyberlux Portable Illumination Systems demonstrates the bipartisan commitment to provide our armed services with the most advanced equipment and technology," Mark Schmidt, Cyberlux president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.

"With the successful evaluation of the BrightEye tactical lighting solutions by the U.S. Air Force, this budget will accelerate the deployment of our BrightEye technology in support of the Air Force's most important missions."
