NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- New York-based Acro Inc. has announced the unveiling of a new explosives detector for use in military and commercial markets.

Acro is an explosive detection solutions developer using patented technology for identifying explosives. The company announced the release of the nitro explosives tester ACRO-N.E.T as a compliment to Acro's improvised peroxide-based explosives tester ACRO-P.E.T.

"The ability to identify military, commercial and peroxide-based improvised explosives with pen-like testers is unique and constitutes a major contribution to security professionals engaged in homeland security," Acro Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gadi Aner said in a statement.

Company officials say ACRO-N.E.T is capable of identifying the majority of military and commercial explosives along with the ability to detect homemade explosives based on nitrate.

The company's ACRO-P.E.T is currently employed by the U.S. Army to detect the increased use of peroxide-based improvised explosives by suspected terrorist organizations. ACRO-P.E.T "identifies peroxide-based explosives, such as triacetone triperoxide, which are almost impossible to identify, since they do not contain nitro groups or colors and may appear in a variety of shapes and forms, including liquid," the company said.

Acro officials are planning to release ACRO-N.E.T and ACRO-P.E.T together in a single explosive detection kit.
