HAWTHORNE, Calif., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- California-based OSI Systems Inc. announced the unveiling of its security division's Rapiscan WaveScan 200 body scanner at the AVSEC World 2007 conference.
OSI Systems' security division, Rapiscan Systems, unveiled the new body scanner in an effort to isolate potential threats using passive millimeter wave imaging technology to provide a method for discerning concealed objects such as liquids, gels, explosives, weapons and contraband in aviation, defense and homeland security environments.
The AVSEC World 2007 conference takes place in Vancouver, Canada.
“We are pleased to launch the Rapiscan WaveScan 200 at the AVSEC World Conference, expanding our range of advanced body scanning technologies," Rapiscan Systems President Ajay Mehra said in a statement.
"We can offer our customers the choice of screening people for threats either in a stand-off mode utilizing passive millimeter wave technology or in a portal mode utilizing our proprietary backscatter X-Ray technology. Both technologies can also be integrated to form a layered security checkpoint that efficiently detects a wide range of concealed metallic and non-metallic security threats.”
Company officials say the scanner has the ability to operate remotely from security personnel with a key feature being that it can detects electromagnetic energy coming from a subject passively revealing concealed objects without transmitting radiation.
