DbProtect part of USAF software solution

NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force announced it is set to implement New York-based Application Security Inc.'s trademarked DbProtect database software security suite.

Application Security is a database security solutions provider. The company's DbProtect was selected as part of a USAF contract with Virginia-based Telos Corp. subsidiary Xacta for a multi-vendor security software solution.

Tasked with establishing application security best practices across Air Force departments, the USAF's Application Software Assurance Center of Excellence is receiving the implementation as part of its development.

“We are happy to extend our database security best practices to the U.S. Air Force, and appreciate their validation of Application Security, Inc. as the preeminent database security vendor,” said Toby Weiss, Application Security president and chief executive officer, in a statement. "The Air Force is leading the way by identifying data security as a critical business consideration early on in the overall software assurance process, and we’re proud to be a part of this new security model."

Other vendors involved include Fortify Software Inc. and IBM/Watchfire. Cigital will take the lead with Xacta in providing organizational and risk assessments under the contract, according to an Application Security release.
