MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Minnesota-based Amcom Software announced a new company initiative to expand its focus on serving the federal government market.

Amcom Software is a mission-critical communication software a provider.

Company officials announced plans to appoint a new sales executive, rigorous product testing and certification and new alliance agreements among other strategic initiatives to expand their reach in the Department of Defense and other government agency markets.

Amcom, which currently has relations with 30 U.S. Army bases, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Marines among others, announced that Scott Opitz has joined the company as its director of federal sales. Before joining Amcom, Opitz, a decorated combat veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps., worked with the Missile Defense Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Energy, among other government agencies.

“Amcom is well-positioned in the federal space with an impressive roster of agency customers and in-demand products tailored to this market,” Opitz said in a statement. “Amcom is a proven and trusted provider of mission-critical communication solutions and I look forward to continuing to build upon our strengths in the federal market.”

Company officials say Amcom has completed federal government testing and is certificated in processes for Information Assurance and Joint Interoperability Tests. Amcom also announced it is nearing completion of negotiations with several key federal partners.

“Our product strength and federal market expertise combined with new alliances and Scott’s leadership in building high-performance government sales programs is a significant asset to Amcom as we look to increase our presence and profile in this marketplace,” said Chris Heim, Amcom’s chief executive officer. “Our foundation in this market is very strong. As we respond to growing federal demand, we will build upon or reputation as the industry’s leading provider of innovative software products for mission-critical communications.”
