ROANOKE, Va., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Virginia-based ITT Corp. announced its Night Vision division has achieved a major milestone delivering its 1 millionth Generation 3 image intensifier tube.

ITT is a water and fluid transport, treatment and control technology provider with additional roles in international security with communications. The company's Night Vision division delivered its 1 millionth Gen 3 image intensifier tube, the heart of the company's night vision technology.

Officials say U.S. and allied military forces are the primary markets in which ITT Night Vision technology is employed.

"We are honored to support our nation's warfighters, and we take immense pride in every night vision tube we produce to help our customers achieve their mission," said Mike Hayman, president and general manager of ITT Night Vision, in a statement. "I would like to thank all of our employees, suppliers and partners for their contributions that allowed us to produce our first million Gen 3 night vision tubes. We are very proud of this milestone, and look forward to advancing the technology more in the years to come."

Original production of the ITT Gen 3 night vision tubes began 1982. In 2005 the U.S. Army awarded ITT Night Vision a contract with a total value of $1.39 billion for image intensifier tubes, doubling production capacity within the last few years to meet the night vision demands.
