Company officials say Ray's appointment is as a result of his experience in technology, defense and government relations.

"Preventing the release of a weapon of mass destruction is the driving principle behind Decision Sciences," said Rich Smith, DSC chief executive officer, in a statement. "Dr. Ray's comprehensive understanding of the development of science and technology for national defense and homeland security strengthens our ability to supply products that will protect Americans from terrorism. We're thrilled Gene has made the commitment to help us achieve our goals and we welcome him to the Board."

The Kentucky native and theoretical physics Ph.D. has also served as executive vice president at San Diego-based SAIC and as a defense industry analyst.

"Decision Sciences Corporation has a unique vision; the integration of technology, talent and resources to develop a comprehensive counterterrorism network," said Ray. "The company is committed to bringing urgently needed strategic, intelligent national security solutions to the marketplace. DSC is positioned to bring powerful tools to the hands of our national leaders in their fight to counter terrorism. I look forward to working with Rich Smith and the rest of the team at Decision Sciences to make that vision a reality as soon as possible."
