BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A U.S. serviceman stationed at a U.S. airbase in Kyrgyzstan has killed a fuel truck driver, the Russian RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The dead man was the Kyrgyz employee of a company servicing Bishkek'international airport, a spokesman for the Manas airport told RIA Novosti on Wednesday. He said the U.S. serviceman was serving on active duty at the time at the airport. The servicemen fired several shots at the driver, killing him instantly, the spokesman said.

RIA Novosti gave no details of why the U.S. soldier fired at the truck driver.

The Russian news agency said that the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Office and Interior Ministry had launched a probe into the affair.
