N. Korea blasts U.N. resolution on rights

PYONGYANG, North Korea, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- North Korea Monday rejected a U.N. resolution condemning its human rights abuses, saying it was "fabricated by hostile forces."

A U.N. General Assembly panel passed a resolution Friday criticizing North Korea's human rights conditions by a vote of 91-21, with South Korea voting in favor for the first time.

"We categorically reject the recent 'human rights resolution' as a product of their anti-DPRK (North Korea) political plot," the North's Foreign Ministry said.

"The resolution fabricated by hostile forces, toeing the U.S. line, is full of sheer lies that can convince no one as was the case with the similar one adopted last year," a spokesman for the ministry was quoted as saying by the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency.

Earlier, the North denounced South Korea's support of the U.N. resolution, saying Seoul should bear responsibility for its decision.

"South Korea's vote for the U.S. resolution on our human rights destroys the North-South relations and is against our efforts for the unification of the two Koreas," the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said in a statement.
