TEHRAN, May 15 (UPI) -- Iran said it has not received any new European proposal about its nuclear program aimed at assuring the world of its transparency and objectives.
Government spokesman Ghulam Hussein Elham was quoted Monday by Iranian news agency IRNA as saying, "we are working within the framework of international treaties, notably the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)."
He stressed the most important guarantee for "ensuring that Iran will not deviate is through cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and the application of NPT."
Elham said the United Nations' nuclear watchdog is monitoring all of Iran's nuclear activities, noting that all reports on the subject "affirm that no deviation has occurred, and that the activities are going on according to international treaties."
Elham reiterated Iran's right to the use of peaceful nuclear technology and the industrial enrichment of uranium.
"There is no point that Iran relinquishes its legitimate right within the existing framework since the nuclear activities are taking part under the observation of the international organization," he said.
"Those who are seeking to achieve other or side objectives in that regard, they should learn the ethics of speaking with the alert Iranian people," he added.
