"This opportunity (relief work) should be utilized to reach a fair settlement of the dispute. We cannot clap with one hand, I hope India realizes that the solution has become more possible now in the wake of the tragedy, in which Kashmir has suffered," he said.

Musharraf said a permanent and final solution to the Kashmir issue can be found now because of the current atmosphere of cooperation between the two countries in the aftermath of the quake.

"All this should be utilized toward directing it towards (a) solution of (the) Kashmir issue," he said.

Kashmir has been a centre of dispute between the two neighbors who have fought two wars over it.

The Oct. 8 quake killed more than 80,000 people in Kashmir, mainly on the Pakistani side.
