Bush to head to APEC, China

WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- President Bush will attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea next month and will then head to China, the White House said Monday.

Bush will also travel to Japan and Mongolia, the White House said.

The trip to China assume significance given the Bush administration's growing wariness at Beijing's growing clout in Latin America and Africa; its currency value and the growing trade imbalance between the two sides.

The APEC meeting in South Korea is expected to focus on terror and epidemics such as bird flu and severe acute respiratory syndrome.
