EU3 seek IAEA governor's meet on Iran

GENEVA, Switzerland, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The Europeans say they will ask the International Atomic Energy Agency's board of governors for a special session on Iran's threatened nuclear activities.

Tehran said Monday it had "decided to resume the uranium conversion activities at the Uranium Conversion Facility in Esfahan, Iran, Aug. 1" and the nuclear watchdog agency said it needed to install additional surveillance equipment, expected to be able to install it next week and for Iran to "refrain from removing the agency's seals" from present surveillance equipment.

Known as the EU3, Britain, France, Germany and the European Union high representative Tuesday sent a letter to the agency's Geneva headquarters saying, "We will be seeking a special session of the IAEA Board of Governors in the next few days to discuss the way ahead.

"Were Iran to resume currently suspended activities, our negotiations would be brought to an end and we would have no option but to pursue other courses of action," the letter said, calling on Tehran, "Not to resume suspended activities or take other unilateral steps."

"Other courses of actions" could mean referring the matter to the U.N. Security Council, which Tehran opposes.
