Lord Jenkins of Hillhead, a major figure in British politics for five decades, died at age 82 at his Oxfordshire home Sunday, his family said. He was chancellor of the Exchequer under Prime Minister Harold Wilson
before breaking away in 1981 to form the short-lived Social Democrat Party.
