Hijack attempt foiled on Saudi plane

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Security men foiled an attempt Tuesday to hijack a Saudi airliner on a regular flight from the Sudanese capital of Khartoum to Jiddah, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

According to SPA, a Saudi passenger armed with a pistol announced that he was hijacking the plane some 22 minutes after it took off from the Khartoum airport. Flight stewards informed the pilot and disarmed and arrested the would-be hijacker.

The plane returned to Khartoum where the 185 passengers and 19-member crew disembarked unharmed and the hijacker was turned over to the Sudanese authorities.
