BELEM, Brazil, May 28 (UPI) -- Nine Brazilian police officers were acquitted Tuesday in the killing of 19 members of the country's landless workers movement during a 1996 protest in the northern state of Para. Earlier this month, the court convicted two commanding officers of giving orders to fire on the protesters and sentenced them to prison terms of 158 and 228 years.
