A veteran politician who has weathered electoral defeats, conservative defections and
political scandals, Giscard now sits above the muckraking, presiding over a new
Convention on the Future of Europe, which opened today.
But whether 76-year-old Giscard is the right man for the job, is another matter. Already, appointment has sparked applause -- and controversy. #
