Annan urges resumption of Mideast talks

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Tuesday that the Middle East is in an "extremely trying period." He reiterated his oft-heard call for resumption of peace talks and a return to previous accords. He also said living conditions for Palestinians must be improved.
