BOGOTA, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Colombian government and rebels agree to ceasefire timetable

BOGOTA, Colombia (UPI) -- The Colombian government and leftist rebels of the FARC announced Sunday night that they had reached a preliminary accord over a timetable for signing a long awaited ceasefire deal.

The parties set April 7th as the target.

The accord, reached with the help of U.N and international mediators, was described as an important step forward and came just hours before a Sunday night presidential deadline that had been given to the rebels.
