NEW DELHI, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A "dead" man came alive a few moments before his funeral.
Sukhlal Gautam, 55, was declared dead by the doctors and his body shifted to mortuary in India's Lucknow city.
But when his family members were shifting the body from mortuary to a funeral van, the man gasped for breath.
Gautam remained in mortuary among other corpses for eight hours before he was discovered alive by his family members.
Gautam, who was admitted to the hospital on December 29, was declared dead on January 12.
"We soon started making arrangements for my father's funeral. When we brought the body out from the mortuary and started to load it onto the vehicle, my father gasped for breath," recalled Gautam's 25-year-old son Guddu.
The hospital has set up a probe into the incident.
Gautam is back to the same bed in the hospital and continues to be in critical condition.
Gautam's relatives are relieved but incensed at the negligence of the hospital staff, The Hindustan Times reported.
