U.N. tries to salvage Colombia peace talks

BOGOTA, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Colombian President Andres Pastrana announced an extension to a deadline for leftist rebels to leave their safe haven after the collapse of peace talks. International mediators will meet with representatives of the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia in an effort to restart talks before Saturday's new deadline.
