
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Unidentified gunmen shot dead the brother of a top Pakistani minister Friday in the port city of Karachi, police said.
Ehtesham Haider, 60, brother of Pakistan's Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider, was shot dead by two unknown motorcyclists in the troubled city. Haider worked at a welfare organization, Fatimid Foundation.
Haider, a former Pakistani general was a former governor of Pakistan's Sindh province, of which Karachi is capital. He was an outspoken critic of Pakistan's religious parties.
Police said the unknown assailants sprayed Haider's car with bullets in the Patel Para area near the foundation's offices as he was about to leave. He sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.
Karachi has been the scene of several high-profile shooting deaths over the past decade.
