Moldova's separatist province elects chief

CHISINAU, Moldova, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Voters in ex-Soviet Moldova's separatist province of Trans-Dniester went to the polls Sunday to elect president in a ballot disputed by the authorities in Chisinau, Russia's NTV television network reported. The election was declared valid as the 50-percent turnout was surpassed hours before the voting ended Sunday evening, election officials said.
