Debate begins on female ascension

TOKYO, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- The birth of a girl to Crown Princess Masako and Crown Prince Naruhito has triggered a new debate on whether the law should be changed to allow a woman to ascend to the Japanese throne. The new princess, who will not be officially named until Dec. 7, was born Saturday, the only child of Masako, 37, and Naruhito, 41.
