Three more journalists die in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Three more foreign journalists have been killed in Afghanistan, bringing to 10 the number killed in the war-torn country in just over a week, the official Iran Radio reported Thursday.

Quoting officials sources in the Afghan capital, Kabul, the Iranian report said the three journalists were killed Wednesday afternoon outside the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad.

"The new Islamic government in Kabul has confirmed the death of three more journalists near Jalalabad but is unable to tell their origin," the report said.

Iran is the first country to re-open its embassy in Kabul after it fell to the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance on Nov. 13. Iran has backed the alliance throughout the five years of Taliban rule over Kabul and has good relations with its officials.

Four Western journalists were killed earlier this week as they were traveling from Jalalabad to Kabul.
