Kuwait lifts ban on Jordan newspapers

AMMAN, Jordan, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Kuwait lifted a ban on Jordanian newspapers imposed after the 1991 Gulf War when Amman sided with Iraq, a Jordanian media official said Wednesday.

Seif Sharif, president of the Press Syndicate, said Kuwaiti Information Minister Ahmed al-Fahd allowed the distribution of Jordanian newspapers in his country without any conditions.

In a statement, Sharif said Kuwaiti authorities also allowed Jordanian television series and programs in Kuwait.

Kuwait banned Jordanian newspapers after Amman supported Iraq during the Gulf War, which followed Baghdad's invasion of Kuwait. Jordanian-Kuwaiti ties, which were tense for years, have improved since late 1999.
