PARIS, July 10 (UPI) -- French energy services company Technip said Thursday it secured a contract to help develop the giant Matindok gas project in Indonesia.

Technip said the contract covers engineering and installation of pipelines, a central processing plant and associated infrastructure for development of the Matindok gas field. Gas from the plant will be sent to a nearby liquefied natural gas facility.

The plant for Matindok will have the capacity to process 23 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year. The French company said Matindok itself has a capacity of about 35 trillion cubic feet per year of gas.

An October report on Southeast Asia from the International Energy Agency said the region's energy demand is expected to soar by more than 80 percent through 2035.

IEA says the region will need around $1.7 trillion of investment in energy infrastructure in the period to 2035.

Technip said it will carry out most of the work from its operating center in Jakarta. The Matindok project is scheduled for completion in early 2016.

No contract value was given.
