Iraqi oil pipeline to Turkey bombed

ANKARA, Turkey, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Oil deliveries from northern Iraq to the Turkish port at Ceyhan were interrupted when militants bombed a pipeline in Iraq, an Iraqi energy official said.

Nusier Mahmoud, a representative from Iraq's state-run North Oil Col, told Turkey's Anadolu news agency militants in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul bombed the pipeline feeding Turkey's export terminal.

He said Monday "a number" of workers were injured, though the pipeline should be repaired by Wednesday.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The pipeline is a frequent target of militants.

In a separate statement, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said that, while more than 400,000 barrels of Iraqi oil was stored at Ceyhan, none of it has been exported yet.

"Turkey has no plans of making such an export at this moment," he was quoted by Anadolu as saying Monday.

The central Iraqi government in Baghdad has expressed frustration with its Turkish counterparts for making oil deals with the semiautonomous Kurdish government without its consent.

Yildiz said he'd wait for Baghdad's approval, adding the Turkish government wished more Iraqi oil could get to the international markets.
