MOSCOW, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said the power grid designed for Sochi for the Winter Olympics -- less than a month away -- is "still being worked on."
Novak told Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting in Moscow generators and other equipment were in place but a network of 560 miles of power cables and 500 substations won't be online until Jan. 25.
The Games begin Feb. 6.
Novak said that of all the major energy projects designed for the Olympics at Sochi the power grid is "the only facility that's still being worked on," Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti reported Thursday.
"We're planning to finish all the work by Jan. 20 and to get permission to move the grid into use by Jan. 25," Novak said.
Last month, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said he was "not sure" the Games would take place without any hitches but was confident that, overall, they would be a success.
Sochi is a resort city on the Russian coast of the Black Sea.
