Rig worker likely recovered from Gulf of Mexico

NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Emergency responders in Louisiana said they believe the recovered the body of a man missing from an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

WWL-TV, New Orleans, reported two sources working on the response effort said they believe a body recovered off the coast of Louisiana was that of Peter Voces, a 38-year-old Filipino national reported missing from an offshore platform.

Talos Energy, parent company of platform owner Energy Resources Technology, said the worker fell into shallow waters along with an empty storage tank. The Philippine Embassy in Washington confirmed Voces was in the United States working as a welder. WWL-TV said Tuesday it had records to show some Filipinos employed to work offshore were in the country illegally.

The federal Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement is on scene and the Coast Guard deployed helicopters Tuesday to search for Voces. Neither agency had an update on the incident Wednesday.

WWL-TV said Voces was employed directly by Offshore Specialty Fabricators, which had no comment on the incident.
