DALLAS, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Drilling is expected to begin in at least one of four possible natural gas sites identified during exploration work in Italy, BRS Resources Ltd. declared.
BRS, which holds a stake in AleAnna Resources LLC, said Wednesday, "AleAnna anticipates drilling at least one of these prospects in the next 12 months."
BRS has headquarters in Texas and AleAnna is based in Delaware.
AleAnna holds nine exploration permits in Italy in reserve areas encompassing more than of 800,000 acres.
All of the license areas under consideration have been surveyed using 3-D seismic technology to get a better understanding of the reserve potential, officials said.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration, the statistical arm of the Energy Department, said Italy produced approximately 304 billion cubic feet of natural gas last year. It holds the sixth-largest proven natural gas reserves in Europe.
BRS said its partners have been able to produce "billions of cubic feet" worth of natural gas in Italy.
