Transocean this week secured a contract from Chevron to build a rig it said would be working in some of the deepest waters in the world. Transocean this year set a record when it drilled in 10,411 feet of water with its Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 drillship off the coast of India.
Transocean said the Chevron rig represents a capital investment of $725 billion.
Prior to that, the company said Wednesday it secured contracts totaling $2 billion as of Sept. 18.
In a fleet update, the company highlighted a 1.5 year contract for work in the Norwegian waters of the North Sea. The contract has a day rate of $499,000.
The company said it had seven rigs under construction as of Wednesday.
