First oil expected soon from offshore China

SYDNEY, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Australia's Roc Oil Co. said it expected to produce around 15,000 barrels of oil per day during the third quarter of 2013 from offshore China.

The company's Chinese subsidiary said the finals stages of a development program in the Beibu Gulf off the southern coast near Vietnam were completed.

Chief Executive Officer Alan Linn said the completion of a 15-well development program was "designed to maximize production from both the original field development plan and development of the additional reserves discovered during the successful 2012 Beibu near field exploration campaign."

The company said the field should be online by the third quarter and deliver approximately 15,000 barrels of oil per day

Roc Oil said it provided project management for the field. China National Offshore Oil Corp. served as the operator.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration, the analytical arm of the Energy Department, said Chinese oil focus has shifted offshore as onshore oil production declines.
