WASHINGTON, May 9 (UPI) -- U.S. lawmakers want to know what information law enforcement officials had about the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, a congressman said.
Boston Police Department Commissioner Ed Davis is among those expected to testify before the House Committee on Homeland Security. Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said lawmakers want to know what can be learned from last month's attack.
Three people died and more than 260 people were wounded April 15 in twin bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
"We will ... examine the interaction of state and local authorities with federal law enforcement prior to and after the attack, and what, if anything, they were told about intelligence regarding the suspects," McCaul said.
Suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev died following a shootout with Boston police April 19, four days after the bombings. His brother and fellow suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured later that day and is in a federal prison medical facility in Massachusetts.
Investigators are looking into whether Tamerlan Tsarnaev contacted extremists while visiting the Russian republic of Dagestan last year.
FBI Director Robert Mueller met with Russian officials this week to discuss the investigation. Russian authorities provided the FBI with information that suggested there possible overseas extremist connections.
