DONIPHAN, Mo., May 2 (UPI) -- About 42 gallons of crude oil was released in a Missouri neighborhood from a section of the Pegasus pipeline, Exxon Mobil confirmed.
A section of the Pegasus pipeline ruptured in March in Mayflower, Ark., dumping around 5,000 barrels of oil. Water and air quality is considered safe and the company has moved to long-term remediation of an area marshland.
Exxon Planning Adviser Russ Roberts confirmed that about one barrel, or around 42 gallons, of crude oil spilled from the same section near the Missouri border with Arkansas, about 200 miles from the March spill, local broadcaster KAIT reports.
The company said the cause of the incident is under investigation.
The Pegasus pipeline was carrying a diluted form of oil from Canada at the time of the spill. The section in Arkansas was removed and repaired, though it was unclear if the entire pipeline was restarted.
