Dad who drowned sons gets death penalty
MANAMA, Bahrain, March 21 (UPI) -- Bahrain aims to secure more oil supplies from Saudi Arabia through a $350 million pipeline set for 2015 completion, a Bahraini energy spokesman said.
Saudi Arabia has delivered oil to Bahrain for more than 60 years through 38 miles of pipeline. Naji Ahamed, a spokesman for the Bahrain Petroleum Co., said studies were completed on a pipeline that could deliver as much as 450,000 barrels per day.
"This means that oil exports from Saudi Aramco to Bahrain would increase," he was quoted by Arab News as saying.
Bahrain this week was the site of the 18th annual Middle East oil and gas conference. The official Bahrain News Agency said the conference was an opportunity to highlight global benefits of the regional energy sector.
BNA reports that members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes Saudi Arabia, produced a combined 5.9 billion barrels of crude oil in 2011.
Ahamed said the $350 million pipeline would be completed by 2015. The daily capacity is compared with 260,000 bpd in existing capacity, Arab News reports.
