"Special focus was laid on key commercial and technical parameters of pipeline gas supplies to the (Chinese) market," Gazprom said in a statement.

Both sides, the Russian company said, would work on a contract for natural gas deliveries to China.

Gazprom added that it was interested in working with CNPC on liquefied natural gas from the Vladivostok project on Russia's eastern coast.

Gazprom in 2007 adopted a program to get more natural gas to Chinese and other Asian markets.

The International Energy Agency said that, for 2010, Chinese natural gas demand was 3.7 trillion cubic and increased to almost 4.6 trillion cubic feet the following year. China in 2011 imported a combined 384 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the form of LNG.
