Dad who drowned sons gets death penalty
HOUSTON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Shell Oil Co. President Marvin Odum said production from the deep-water Perdido hub in the U.S. waters of the Gulf of Mexico was going "extremely well."
Odum said production from the hub passed 115,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. It has the capacity to handle 130,000 boe per day.
"The project is doing extremely well," he was quoted by the Platts news service as saying during a Houston energy conference. "We have crossed another milestone."
Odum said the facility, about 200 miles off the coast of Texas, is the deepest spar in the Gulf of Mexico.
Perdido is designed for production from the Great White, Silvertip and Tobago fields in the Alaminos Canyon of the Gulf of Mexico. Oil and natural gas fields beneath the platform are estimated by the company to hold 3 billion-15 billion boe.
The company said the spar is "nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower" and represents "the deepest drilling and production platform in the world."
